"There is a Bengali song which runs like this: 'You have brought me up and taken care of me.
O Mother, I only know you are there, but I have never seen you.'
It is an idea which very much appeals to me. The Mother is looking after us all the time, but does not appear before us. We cannot say it is a fault on Her part. She is always with us, only we ourselves refuse to see Her. How can we see Her, if we are slaves to our senses and passions? It is these senses and passions which, for their own sport, have kept us in the dark."
