Nectar #28

Swami Vivekananda

The year 2013 signals the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.  Swamiji, as he is affectionately and reverently called among the devotees of Sri Ramakrishna, changed the course of Indian and western society in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.  It is not possible to overestimate the impact that his two visits to the U.S. and Europe had on the intellectuals and spiritual seekers of the time.  Western society received an “injection of Brahmajnan” (knowledge of nondual Reality), universality, and true Religion that shook the foundations of religious and intellectual society.  By the sheer force of Purity, Realization, selflessness, and Love, Vivekananda paved the way for humanity in this age to commence a collective shift across cultures and religions toward the ideal of universality based on the oneness of Existence.
