The Subtle Knowledge that Leads the Soul

Beyond Cycles of Transmigration

New times:  4:30pm Pacific, 7:30pm Eastern

Belonging to the Sukla-Yajur-Veda, this short but powerful scripture of just 9 slokas gives the striving soul quintessential teachings that will aid it in its journey through and beyond time and space.  Taraka means ‘to cross,’ and the implication is, as the opening slokas declare, that the transmigrating soul is to cross over the sea of birth and death, beyond all suffering, and return to the Source of its existence, i.e., Advaya Brahman.
Advaya, echoing the Sanskrit word, advaita, means “not-two,” or having no other.  It does not have two forms.  To “cross over” all that is attended by form requires subtle knowledge which, this Upanisad, proceeds to teach us.

Some key quotes from this Upanisad:

“For comprehension of internal things, the deep application of mind is necessary.  To perceive the subtle akashas the yogi needs to open the mind’s eye.  After that he sees what is beyond the mind.”

“Free of batting the eyelids to behold what is inside and outside, the luminary settles into the peaceful repose of sambhavi mudra and becomes a holy space for others to abide in.”
