The Essential Role of Constancy in Spiritual Life and Practice

The great boons of finding an Ideal or Ishtam, a spiritual path connected to It, a qualified teacher, and the best method with which to proceed, are to be cherished by those intent on reaching the Goal of Enlightenment prescribed by the luminaries of all religions. The singular risk that threatens these rare boons among today’s spiritual aspirants is giving up the path before said Goal is reached.

Further, the main element in this betrayal of the sincere quest after Self Realization is the demise of daily practice.  Thus, constancy is enjoined and held up as a prime ingredient in the all-important arena of spiritual self-effort.  As Patanjali, the Father of Yoga, has declared: “Authentic self-discipline joined to dispassion successfully quells unwanted thought vibrations in the mind.  When these two are combined, the result is called practice.  But this practice becomes firm only when maintained and observed for a very long time, and with a devout and positive attitude.”
