Sunday Class – Paingala Upanisad

The Finely-Folded Cloth of the Many Worlds

Sundays, June 8th, 15th, 22nd, & July 6

The Paingala Upanisad, one of the nineteen upanisads of the Sukla-Yajur Veda, offers a broad and enlightened stance on Indian philosophy and cosmology, both.  In the first of its four chapters, the qualified disciple, Paingala, approaches the magnificent seer, Yajnavalkya, and asks him to instruct him in the truth of the path of blissful isolation, or what exists prior to all beginnings of cycles, i.e., Creation.  From the most refined level of Awareness to the appearance of the many manifested worlds, all together resembling a finely-folded cloth of consciousness, the process of playful projection is related, tier by tier, to the absorbing delight of the wonderstruck soul.

Paingala, a word akin to pingala, the subtle passage of spiritual light in orbit with its twin nadi called the Ida — both encircling the central nadi called Shushumna — thus come to be revealed.
