This World’s Most Ancient Vedic Goddess

Sunday, January 25th

In the Rig Veda, the world’s oldest scripture, powerful mention is made of the appearance of Sarasvati Devi in Her aspect of Umavati, or Himavati – Goddess of the Eternal Snow Mountains.  Earlier than even this phase of time, She was seen and worshipped by the people of India as the primal Goddess of the sacred River, Sarasvati, now submerged underground, becoming one with the Ganges.  She was also once called Bharat, the name of the country of India in the earliest of times.  Thus, Her many aspects bear looking into via phases of time, the donning of names, and the beneficial shakti powers She animates.
