Holy Company at the River Retreat
Samba Sada Siva! Behold Lord Shiva and His Divine Shakti! Everything in the universe is a result of Their ecstatic union.
Vedanta and Tantra were our philosophical and spiritual diet during six days of blissful Holy Company in a secluded cabin near the American River. Babaji “charted” us through the Sri Shivanam Sankirtanam using an abundance of teaching charts to unwrap the inner meaning of each verse. Meanwhile, students each memorized a verse in English and Sanskrit to help intensify their understanding.
Right at the start of the retreat, Babaji called our attention to the need for concentration. “Concentration is essential. Householders will have to do this at work. They have to learn the art of seeing through the world via discrimination and renunciation without getting depressed. What kind of concentration? That wherein one’s mind never ceases to focus.” This requires that we clarify the mind with teachings and then intensify our understanding via sadhana. “Why do we have to do this?” Babaji asked pointedly, “Because the whole world is a projection of your mind.” Thus, clarification of mind and a living, daily sadhana upon which all other activities are based, including work, will lead to a buoyant quality of mind.
